William "Bill" Ellis

William Wayne Ellis (Bill), of Harrison, passed away on October 4, 2021, at the age of 73.  He was born on September 9, 1948, in Oneida, TN the 8th child of Murley and Sarah (nee Douglas) Ellis. Bill quit school when he was 14 and started working at Bierrman Movers to help support his mom and younger brother Gary.  He enlisted in the US Army and served during the Vietnam era. Bill ended up landing a job at P&G as a machinist at the Ivorydale Plant in St. Bernard, Ohio. He created several patents during his 30-year career at P&G, for which he was very proud.  He retired when he was 50 years old.  Bill learned how to drive a semi after retirement and then went on to teach for a couple years at Cincinnati State Community College. He was always the life of the party, so it made sense that he was also the DJ at many parties over the years.  Bill taught his children a strong work ethic and how to be independent.  He enjoyed bowling, golfing, and buying cars, fixing them up, and selling them for a little more than the price he bought them.  His pride and joy were his Harley Davidson, 1968 Chevelle Super Sport and being “Papaw Bill” to his 14 grandchildren.   

His memory will live on with his children: Tina (Mark) Crail, Vicky (Mark Francis) Ellis, and William (Darcie) Ellis and his trusted dog “Pete”, who honored and protected him until the time of his death; cherished grandchildren: Shelby, Sarah, Ryan, Robbie Crail, Jenna Hinson, William Ellis-Martini, Hayden, Riley, Wyatt, Cooper, and Madelyn Ellis, Amanda, Caitlin and Zach Worley; beloved siblings: Willard Ellis and Thurman “Tom” (Susan) Ellis; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. 

Bill was preceded in death by his parents: Murley and Sarah Ellis; siblings: Sue Holcomb, Christine Neudigate, Louise Garrett, Gary Lynn Ellis, Jerome Ellis and Charles Ellis. 

Gathering of friends will be at Brater Winter Funeral Home, 201 S. Vine St., Harrison, on Saturday, October 9, 2021, from 10 am until the time of the Blessing service at 12 pm.  Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery with the Harrison Honor Guard and US Army.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Harrison Honor Guard through the funeral home.
