Obituary

Robert J. Sharp, of Hidden Valley, passed away on May 3, 2022, at the age of 84.  He was born on May 17, 1937, in Cincinnati, Ohio to George Sr. & Irene (nee Schwartz) Sharp.  Robert in his high school years was a good ball player and played on the Ohio State Allstar team and selected as an All City and All State player.  He went on to play football at Muskingum University, where he received a full ride. While in college he joined the Navy ROTC. After college he went to work for the United Parcel Service and was a driver.  He was inducted into the Drivers Hall of Fame for having a safe driving record for 40 years.  Robert married Betty Etherington on December 7, 1957, they were blessed with three children: Lori, Robin and Steve.  Robert and sports when hand in hand.  In his free time, he helped coach or would be officiating High School football & basketball or playing slow pitch softball.  As his children got older, he never missed their sporting events and loved watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren play as well. Robert in another life must have been a cowboy because he loved western movies and riding horses.  He also enjoyed golfing and taught his wife Betty how to play… he didn’t like it when she ended up with a lower score than he did.  Robert had a strong faith and was active in the Knight of Columbus and the Catholic Church.  He worked two jobs in all his free time to help pay for his children’s catholic education.  Robert enjoyed time with his family and when Betty wasn’t looking, he was always stealing some sweet treats, especially peach pie.

His legacy will live on in his wife Betty Sharp; children: Lori (Jay) Roden, Robin (Andy) Metzner, R. Steven (Sandi) Sharp; cherished grandchildren: Justin (Jennifer), & Jay (Audra) Roden, Rachel (Tim) Noyes, Matt (Kacy), & Craig (Molly) Metzner, Grant (Mary), & Stephanie Sharp; beloved great grandchildren: Hailey, J.T., Eli, Tye, Jax, Peyton, Maggie, Meredith, Cressie, Lillie & another due at the end of May.  Robert is also survived by brother Jerry Sharp and numerous nieces, nephews & great nieces, & nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents; sibling: George Jr., Brett, William “Whittie”, Donald, Tommy, Jimmie, Rose, Verna, Jo Ann & Carol Jean.
