Mary Schulte Obituary

Mary Lee (Hirschberg) Schulte, of Okeana, passed away on April 13, 2023, at the age of 95.  She was born on January 4, 1928, in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Leon and Helen (nee Schaible) Hirschberg.  She attended Edgecliff College and was a Chemistry major and worked in a hospital. She married Joseph August Schulte, whom she dated in high school, on June 30, 1951, and they were blessed with 8 children: Joe, Steve, Mike, Mary, John, Larry, Lee and Katie. Mary Lee used her chemistry major in all the wonderful meals and food she prepared from scratch.  From Bread, Potato Salad, Coffee Cake, Creamed Eggs with mushrooms, homemade butter, and Cottage cheese, she did it all from scratch. She also enjoyed gardening and Joseph had to add a sunroom just for her flowers.  She taught her children about faith, kindness, and not to give up or quit when you feel like you want to give up.  She was a big believer in not fighting and if you did, she would come after you with a broom and a bucket of water.  The most important trait she exemplified was the love for her family and the commitment of marriage to her husband.  Marriage is not always easy, but it is worth working on and fighting for.

Mary Lee was preceded in death by her devoted husband Joseph August Schulte; parents: Leon & Helen (nee Schaible) Hirschberg; siblings: Edith Maurer, Margie Lynd, & Gene Hirschberg.

Those left to carry on Mary Lee’s legacy are her wonderful children: Joe (Ann) Schulte, Steve (Donna) Schulte, Mike (Vicki Baldwin) Schulte, Mary (Pete) Rodas, John (Gloria) Schulte, Larry (Julie) Schulte, Lee (Betsy) Schulte and Katie (Keith) Payne; cherished grandchildren: Jennifer Schulte, Aaron (Victoria) Schulte, Ben (Audrey) Schulte, Ellen (Joel) Jordan, Olivia Schulte, Josh (Casey) Schulte, Nathan (Karen) Schulte, Daniel (Hanife) Schulte, Sarah (Adam Sena)Schulte, Samuel (Megan) Schulte, Anna (Mac) Blanchard, Rachel (Nick Hinton) Schulte, Emmalee (Jacob Kessens) Schulte, Elizabeth Schulte, Jacob Schulte, Zachary Schulte, Nathaniel Schulte, Alex (Emma)Schulte, Sarah E. Schulte, Thomas and Nick Payne; great grandchildren: Harper, Adeline, Theodore, Charlotte, Reese, James, Ian, Owen & Curtis Schulte; Eli, Oliver, Emmett, & Arthur Jordan, & Enzo Sena.  Sister: Ann (Paul) Rapien.
