Martin "Marty" Eckstein Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Martin "Marty" Eckstein on March 28, 2024 of Bright, Indiana. Born on July 31, 1946, in Batesville, Indiana to Roman and Irene (Hountz) Eckstein. He was one of nine children in the Eckstein family.  Marty met Ursula Doll and they married on August 26, 1972.  Marty was a beloved husband and a man of many talents and interests that kept Ursula on her toes.  Marty was an active member of the Knights of Columbus Harrison 2633, finding joy in activities such as golfing, camping with friends and fellow Knights, and tending to his beloved garden.

Marty's passion for woodworking and carpentry shone through in his creations, and he found solace in crafting beautiful pieces. A proud veteran, Marty served in the US Navy from January 1966 to December 1969, where he exhibited bravery and dedication to his country. He also worked for Fernald for many years until his retirement.

In addition to his diverse interests, Marty enjoyed square dancing and was known for his skill in playing horseshoes. His involvement in St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross in Bright allowed him to deepen his faith and connect with others who shared his beliefs.

Marty's warmth, humor, and kind spirit touched the lives of all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed. Those left to carry on his legacy of love are his dear wife Ursula Eckstein; children: Christina Wilson and Randy (Christy) Eckstein;  cherished grandchildren: Devon (Emily) Wilson, Gabriel (Lacy) Eckstein, and Cole Eckstein; great grandchildren: Tomas and Lola Eckstein;  his beloved brothers: John (Julie), Richard (Teresa), Robert (Marcia), Ron (Elsie), Denny (Fern), Jerry (Vicky) and Ralph (Ellen) Eckstein; brother-in-law & sisters-in-law: Pete (Linda) Doll, Claire Benner, and Elaine Moody; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Marty was preceded in death by his grandson Cory Wilson, parents: Roman and Irene Eckstein; sister: Jean (John) Kennel; brothers-in-law: Ray Benner and John Moody.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 1, 2024 from 4 pm until the time of the Rosary at 6:45 and Knights of Columbus service to follow.  Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross, on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 11 am with Fr. Hollowell officiating.  Immediately following the mass the US Navy and the Harrison Honor Guard will pay tribute to Marty's military service.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Reach our Pregnancy Center, Dearborn Food Pantry or Masses to be said in his memory.
