Jim W McGregor

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Jim W McGregor, of Harrison.  He passed away suddenly on February 26, 2024, at the age of 79.  Jim was born on November 4, 1944, in Cincinnati to Eldridge and Leatha (Mason) McGregor.  Jim grew up in Harrison and his love of baseball started at a young age playing knothole baseball.  He also enjoyed summers filled with daily pick-up baseball games at local fields. In high school he played varsity, baseball, football and basketball.  However, baseball was Jim’s love.  He graduated from William Henry Harrison High School and went on to attend Ohio University on a baseball scholarship playing catcher and first base.  He was blessed to play for Coach Bob Wren and his experience led to a life-long employment in education and signing a professional contract with the New York Mets. Jim received his BSEd from Ohio University graduating in 1966,  MSEd from Univ. of Toledo in 1972, where he also was Assistant Baseball Coach from 1970-1972.  Jim touched so many young lives in baseball as the Head Coach or Assistant coach at Harrison High School, Storm Club, Midland, and Lakota High School.  He coached football too. Jim was inducted into the Harrison Athletic Hall of Fame in 1998.

Jim leaves a long legacy not just in baseball, coaching and education but his loving family including his two sons: Scott and Mark (Natalia) McGregor;  his cherished grandchildren: twin granddaughters: Aubrey McGregor & Brodie (Conner) Merrell, Mason (Alexis) McGregor and Ivan Skhitladze and a plethora of great grandpups; dear sister Joan Loos, sister-in-law: Patricia McGregor; uncle Archie Mason; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents: Eldridge and Leatha (nee Mason) McGregor; siblings: Judy (Harold) Gregory, Barbara McGregor and Jerry McGregor; brother-in-law: Raymond Loos.

Memorial service will be held at Broadway Commons, Harrison, Ohio, on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 2 pm followed by a reception to Celebrate Jims' Life.
