Donald Robert Mattlin, Sr.

Don Mattlin Sr. was a heck of a storyteller and his family always had to ask if the stories were true, because they were so off the wall.  While his family wishes his story had a few more chapters, his life was a collection of nothing but great stories. However, on August 23, 2022, Donald Robert Mattlin Sr., passed away at the age of 69.  Don was a lifelong resident of Sayler Park.  He was born on November 23, 1952, to Roy George Sr. & Lena (nee Chandler) Mattlin. He was one of seven children in the Mattlin family.  Don started working for the City of Cincinnati as a seasonal worker and then got hired on where he retired after 30 years as a City Inspector at the age of 49.  He married Carol Mills on November 23, 1996. He joined his two sons: Robby and Scotty with his bonus children: Brandon, Heather, Cindy, Mikey, and Mark.  In retirement Don enjoyed playing cards… Texas Hold’em was his favorite, winning money at the casinos, and driving race cars.  His dad was a promoter for Lawrenceburg Speedway, so he raced all of his life and passed the love onto his sons.  He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. 

His memory will live on with his loving wife Carol Mattlin; children: Donald Robert “Robby”, Jr & Scotty Wayne (Vickii Leppert) Mattlin; bonus children: Brandon (Denise) Bedel, Heather (Pete) Stokes, Cindy (Sarah) Bedel-Melvin, Michael Bedel, & Mark (Kasie) Bedel; cherished grandchildren: A.J., Megan, Alexis, Kayci, Maxwell (Hayley), Shelby, Justin, Brandi (Nick), Brittany (Jake), Karlie, Brady, Brynn, Ben, Josh, Jacob, Jace, Joey, Kameron, Kennedy, & Arabella; beloved great grandchildren: Maddi, Lilly, Jake, Kobe, Aliyah, Carter & Cori.  Also survived by his sister Patricia (Jack) Smith and sisters-in-law: Terri Mattlin, Joanne Mattlin, & Patti (Barry) Watson; brother-in-law: Gary (Tina) Mills. Also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. 

Don was preceded in death by his parents: Roy George Mattlin Sr. & Lena (nee Chandler) Mattlin; siblings: Mary Jane (Bob) Love, George Mattlin, Butch Mattlin, James (Meeksy) Mattlin, Margie (Dale) Detmer; and brothers-in-law: Dennis & David Mills.  

Family will be gathering privately in his honor.  If you would like to make a memorial in Don’s memory, please give to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital.
