Ora Garrett Obituary

Ora Lee Garrett of Harrison, formerly of Hamilton, passed away on April 23, 2018, at age 79. She was born to Oscar and Ellen (nee Horn) Tipton in Estill County, Kentucky, on October 29, 1938. She graduated High School and married Donald Garrett, on February 22, 1958, in Fairfield, Ohio. They were blessed with three children Donna, Mark, and Holly. Ora Lee was a wonderful mother who was very proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She worked for the Hamilton City School District as an Executive Administrator and retired in 1998 from Wilson Jr. High after over 20 years of service. She enjoyed traveling to such places as Hawaii, California, and Washington DC. She cherished a special girl's trip through Europe. She and Don were blessed to spend six winters with wonderful friends in Fort Myers, Florida. She enjoyed dancing, reading a good book, and spending time with family and friends. Ora Lee was an active member of Legacy Christian Church. According to her, the turning point for her came when she gave her life to Christ. Her faith continued to guide her. With great anticipation she left this world, and to use her words, she "went home."
She was preceded in death by her husband Donald Garrett, parents: Oscar and Ellen; siblings: Doug, Glen, and Phil Tipton, Marty Owens, Wanda Charleville, David Winsted, Shirley Delver, Randy and Keith Winsted, and special friend, Wayne Rose.
Those left to cherish her memory are her son: Rev. Mark (Judith) Garrett of Harrison, Ohio; two daughters, Donna (Rev. Dr. Mark) Friend of Jolliet, Illinois, and Holly (Ret. MSG Ken) Pryor of Reidsville, North Carolina; eight grandchildren, Mark Joseph Friend Jr., Megan (Robert) Baratta and Joshua (Tiffany) Friend, Rebecca (Logan) McQueary, Victoria (Aaron) Hoerst, Alexis Norman, Zachary Pryor, and Kaitlyn Pryor; four great grandchildren: Ashton and Micah McQueary and Everly and Knox Friend; siblings: Loretta (Bill) Rodgers, Carol (Doug) Scrivner, Brenda (Danny) Works, Rick Winsted, Linda (Mike) Callahan, Gary, Carl, and Kenny Winsted. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held at the Legacy Christian Church, 207 North Vine St., Harrison, Ohio, 45030, on Thursday, April 26, 2018 from 4 PM until the time of the Funeral Service at 7 PM. Rev. Mark Garrett and Rev. Dr. Mark Friend will officiate. Private burial will be in Rose Hill Burial Park.
Instead of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Legacy Builders Fund through the church.
