Vera Lee (nee Davis) Cook, of Harrison, passed away on Jan. 12, 2022, at the age of 90.
She was born on the 22nd of January 1931, at the family farm near Guilford, Indiana to Luvina (nee Risse) and Harry Davis. Vera began her formal schooling at a one room schoolhouse on Rt 1. Beginning in the 4th grade, she moved to the New Guilford School, which she graduated from in 1949. Vera married Lee Cook in 1951, in Evansville, Indiana, after Lee finished basic training, and before he shipped out to Newfoundland for a year. Vera worked for Paul Biddle, at the Harrison Pharmacy, until she had her first child in 1963. She enjoyed being a mom and for many years, and she would always volunteer at Harrison Elementary. Vera went on to become a Teacher’s Aide. She was a member of St. John U.C.C. and enjoyed being a Sunday School teacher and helping with anything and everything the church needed. Vera enjoyed cooking and was famous for her Old Pie and egg noodles. She was also a fantastic artist and a wonderful seamstress. She made and sold bears and clothing for the bears. As her children grew, she taught them to sew also. Vera and Lee enjoyed traveling all over with their camper. Wherever she went, Vera she would always know the history of the place they were visiting. She was a fanatic reader, always reading many books and sometimes reading her favorites more than once.
Vera will be greatly missed by her children: Christine Cook Sinclair and Joe (Jill) Cook; cherished grandchildren: Alexander Sinclair, Kurt Helmut Schrage and John "Jack" Schrage; brother-in-law: Ron Ross; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Lee Cook; son-in-law: Michael Sinclair; parents Harry and Luvina Davis; siblings: Alvin Davis, Lester Davis, and Ruby Ross.
Gathering of Friends will be held at Brater Winter Funeral Home, 201 S. Vine St., Harrison, OH 45030 on Saturday, January 22, 2022 (her birthday) from 11 am until the time of the funeral service at 1 pm. Rev. Scott Holland will be officiating. Interment to follow at a later date at Glen Haven Cemetery.
