Susan A. Hyre

Susan A. (nee Berry) Hyre, of Mount Vernon, Ohio, passed away on August 22, 2023, at the age of 87. She was the eldest child born to Browning and Leona Berry on September 20, 1935, in Lynn, Indiana . She had two siblings: the late Lucile Parker and the late David Berry. On March 5, 1955, Susan married John F. Hyre.  She was a devoted wife and mother of 2 children: John Allen and Pamela.  She had 6 Grandchildren, 17 Great Grandchildren and 1 Great Great Grandchild. Her love for both God and Winchester stemmed back generations with heritage to Mary Martin Reeder, who started the 1st church (Methodist) there in 1835.  Through the years, Susan attended the Friends Church in Lynn, The United Methodist Church, and Compass United Methodist Church, both in Winchester. 

Susan had a special gift for cooking, baking and sewing which she used tirelessly and generously to delight and enrich others' lives.  Her talent for baking and candy making filled the tables of many a bake sale for charity events and church functions. 

Susan graduated from Lynn High School in 1953 and her work history included The Lynn Locker Plant, A&P Grocery, Randolph Co. Jail, Maul Technology, Winchester Speedway and Ascension Hospital.  She enjoyed bowling, bingo, and being a supporter of the Winchester Golden Falcons Athletics and Band.

A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at the Fountain Park Cemetery Chapel, 700 S Main St, Winchester, IN 47394.  Friends may pay respects between 11 and 11:30 AM, with a service afterwards.
