Stephen Viel

Stephen Laurence Viel, age of 74, of Bright, Indiana, passed away on January 11, 2022, at St. Elizabeth Edgewood.

Steve was born April 7, 1947, in Hamilton, Ohio to Edward Allen and Pauline Louise (nee Schlemmer) Viel. At the age of 3, Steve’s family moved from Harrison, Ohio to a farmhouse on Georgetown Road in Bright, Indiana, where he raised sheep and was a beekeeper. He was a beloved brother to Dave Viel, Anna McCann, and the late Curt Viel. In 1965, Steve graduated from North Dearborn High School, and later he served in the Army. After he was honorably discharged, he came home and became a Union Boiler Maker with Local 105. On May 10, 1975, he married his loving wife, Linda Weisbrodt. They built their beautiful A-Frame home, with the help of family and friends. Steve has lived on Georgetown Road for a total of 71 years.

Steve and Linda were blessed with four children: Paul, Kate, Jake, and Mary.  For the last sixteen years, Steve has only had one grandchild, Skyla, but last summer he was given the exciting news of having another granddaughter this March. He is also survived by his aunt Rita Viel.

After retiring from being a Boiler Maker, you could find him in his “Jurassic Park” garden, in his shop welding, in a boat on his pond fishing, eating ice cream on the porch with the grand dog, or playing dominoes, cards, or working a puzzle with family and friends.

Steve was able to celebrate and enjoy the Christmas season with the Viel relatives, his lifelong friends, and his children with their families.

Visitation will be held at Brater Winter Funeral Home, 201 S. Vine Street, Harrison, Oh on Monday, January 17, 2022, from 5 to 8 pm.  Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, at 10am at Bright Providence Presbyterian Church, 23983 Salt Fork Rd, Lawrenceburg, IN 47025.  Burial will follow at St. John the Baptist Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the US Army and the Harrison Honor Guard.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bright Providence Presbyterian Church, St. John the Baptist Catholic Church or Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.  A funeral home representative will assist you during the visitation or funeral with your donation. If you are unable to attend, please mail your donation, payable to one of the above charities, to the funeral home.
