Richard “Don” Kamuf Obituary

Richard “Don” Kamuf, of Cincinnati, passed away on July 22, 2020 at the Aloise Alzheimer’s Center. He was born in Owensboro, Kentucky to Cora Lou Westerfield and Eugene Kamuf on November 24, 1933, the third oldest of eight children. 

Don is survived by his wife Betty of 61 years; children: Tina (Chris) Kamuf Basham, Bonnie Kamuf, Jeffery (Guil) Kamuf, Peter (Brenda) Kamuf. Three grandsons, two granddaughters, a step grandson and daughter. And numerous nieces and nephews 

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by siblings: Elizabeth "Betty Jo" Kaelin, Margie Kamuf Merimee, Bill Kamuf and Tom Kamuf; sister-in-law: Charlotte Kamuf. Surviving him are three brothers: Jim (Martha) Kamuf, Larry (Donna) Kamuf, and Dan Kamuf; two sisters-in -laws Betsy Kamuf and Sara Kamuf.

After graduating from St. Frances Academy in 1951, Don worked on the Tobacco Market as a weighman. When the Korean War broke out, he served in the Naval Reserve as a radio man in the communications center. Discovering a great interest in electronics, he studied at technical college and landed a career for 34 years as a mobile installer, installing electronic switching equipment that brought telephone industry into the 21st century.

Fifty years ago he joined the Mack Volunteer Fire department, and watched it turn into a foundation which raises money for the Green Township Fire Department. Over the last 50 years, he held various positions in the fire department. He served as secretary of “A Day  In Eden”, a festival held in Eden Park. He is also a member of The Chambers Hautman American Legion Post 534.

 Don’s hobbies were playing cards, golf, working with his tools in his wood shop and driving his John Deer tractor. He served Mass at St. Vincent DePaul Church about 20 years and was a poll judge for 23 years. 

His body has been donated to the University of Cincinnati for educating medical students. After research use, his body will be cremated and buried in Spring Grove Cemetery. 

There will be a Mass of Christian burial for family and friends on Thursday, July 30th at 10 AM, at St. Vincent DePaul Parish, 4036 River Road. The mass will be read by Father Donald Rettig.
