Michael Burnett Obituary

Michael D. Burnett, cherished husband of Janet Burnett, loving step-father of Adam Backscheider and beloved brother of Byron (Beth) Burnett, passed suddenly and peacefully on August 7th, 2021. A resident of Cincinnati, Oh, he was 72 years old. Additionally, Mike was loved dearly by his brother-in-law Dan Perrmann and his sister-in-law Katherine (Dana) Harbin. He is also survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews, cousins and many treasured friends.

Mike was raised in Ogden, Utah by his devoted mother and father, LaVern and Joseph Burnett who preceded him in death as did his cherished brother Vern (Sonny).

Mike graduated from Ogden High School in 1967 and Weber State College. He proudly served in the U.S. Army Green Beret Special Forces Airborne Division, where he received numerous commendations and awards. After his honorable discharge he embarked upon a successful 40 year career with the IRS where he received multiple promotions that took him to the four corners of the United States. He ultimately was promoted to a managerial position in IT which brought him to Cincinnati, OH in 2000.

Mike bumped into his wife, in a literal sense, on an elevator in the building where they both worked. After a storied romance, they married in 2005. They would have celebrated their 16th anniversary next month.

The things that Mike loved most in life were the outdoors, sports, classic cars and family. The one thing often repeated by so many that knew Mike is that he was a good man and he certainly was. You’ve earned your repose my dear Mike and you will be dearly missed by all who loved you.

A memorial service honoring Mike will be held at a later date.
