Mary Eileen (Stirrat) Cahill

Mary Eileen Cahill, of Cleves, passed away on Tuesday, March 14, 2023, at the age of 89.  She was born on October 21, 1933, in Cincinnati, Ohio to Arthur and Marie (nee Rohling) Stirrat. On June 4, 1955, she married Gerald Joseph Cahill and together they were blessed with three children: Greg, John, and Denise.

Mary Eileen, Eileen to her friends, and Mom and Grandma to the family, was a caring and supportive parent and friend. From her days on Mt. Adams and Decca Records to raising a family of two boys and a girl, six grandchildren, and thirteen great grandchildren, she was supportive of all their adventures. Eileen was a girl scout, probably when girl scout cookies were only twenty-five cents a box… She met Jerry (Dad/Grandpa) at CG&E. And forever were they married even after his death. Mom was a piano player, only distracted from her “real” playing by the racing duets with Dad. In her younger days she loved Moonlight Gardens and dancing the jitterbug.

She made the transition from supporting Dad to being the matriarch of the family. Moved from her house to her condo and lived independently until her first stroke. After getting through the adjustment of living in the nursing home, she acted as an ambassador helping to show new residents the benefits, and feeding those that could not help themselves. She made many friends, including those of the nursing staff. She made an impression on others whenever she interacted with them.

From childhood on Mt Adams, which she remembers vividly, she managed the changes of marriage, children, family growth and the unfortunate last of a generation to pass. She was steady, loving and always caring for others. She now leaves us to provide as her replacement based on her example and expectation.

Eileen was preceded in death by her loving husband: Gerald J. Cahill and parents: Arthur and Marie Stirrat.

Those left to cherish her memory and continue on with her legacy are her dear children:  Greg (Danette) Cahill, John (Bev) Cahill, and Denise (Kevin) Horgan; loving grandchildren: to Steve (Ana) and Chris (Alicia) Cahill, Angie (Jon) and Brad (Brittany) Cahill, and Kelly Horgan and Jenny (Ben) King; beloved great grandchildren: to Sayler and Alice Cahill, Walker and Cameron Cahill, Bryson, Dillon, Carter and Kinsley Ditton, Xander Cahill, and Eli, Alex, Owen and Zoe King; and devoted sister to Art (Jean) Stirrat.

Mass of Christian Burial at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 25 E Harrison Ave, North Bend, OH 45052, on Friday, March 17, 2023, at 10:00 am. Graveside service to follow at St. Joseph New Cemetery, 4500 Foley Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45238.
