On February 4, 2021, Joyce Grandstaff, age 71, of Whitewater Township, passed away peacefully in her sleep at home after a long battle with a rare neurological disorder, corticobasal degeneration.
She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Roy Grandstaff; dear children: Krista (Thomas Williams) Grandstaff, Todd (Becky) Grandstaff, Kathryn (Scott) Grandstaff-Bradford, Megan (Daniel McGuire) Grandstaff; Cherished grandchildren: Dylan, Griffin, Ethan, Barret, Zachary, Zoey, Samantha, Alexandra and Blair; beloved siblings: Robert (Karen) Scott (Janie Barnett) Sprague: Sisters-in-law: Cathy Sprague, Sara Quasey, and Patricia Grandstaff and brothers-in-law: Richard Grandstaff and Roger Grandstaff.
Joyce was preceded in death by her son: Sean Grandstaff; father and mother: Gilbert and Doris Sprague; and her younger brother Thomas Sprague.
A native Cincinnatian who lived her entire life on the western side of Hamilton County, Joyce was a dynamic, talented, and loving individual whose personal loyalty and strength of character were demonstrated consistently in diverse arenas. Whether playing or coaching softball; volunteering with the Girl Scouts; volunteering with the school, church, and festivals of St. John the Baptist parish in Harrison, Ohio; or volunteering with the Drama Club of LaSalle High School, Joyces insights, dependability, and willingness to do anything needed was appreciated by those with whom she served.
An employee of the Mercy Health system and its predecessor organizations for 28 years, Joyces organizational and customer service skills were immediately apparent to the co-workers and patients she served. At the same time, Joyce maintained the growth and development the five children, often while Roy was away from home on Active Reserve duty with the U.S. Army.
Joyce's favorite pastime, other that attending the athletic and school events of her children and grandchildren, was traveling with the family, as evidenced by trips to Europe, Hawaii, 43 of the 50 United States, more than two dozen national parks, and numerous military installations. Local trips on extended weekends and hosting Murder Mystery Parties were two activities Joyce enjoyed sharing with close friends, as well as the memories of them which were recounted throughout the years.
Joyce's kindness, compassion, and charity will be sorely missed by her family and all those with whom she came in contact.
Mass will be celebrated for Joyce at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 11, 2021 at St. John the Baptist Church, 10010 Carolina Trace, Harrison, Ohio. The services will be live streamed on the service listing below. Masks and social distance guidelines will be followed at church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. A check may be made payable to the Charity and mailed to Brater Winter Funeral Home or bring to the service and give to a funeral home representative.
