It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Jerry C. Summerville, age 80, of Fairfield, on June 5, 2020. He was born on January 5, 1940 in West Frankfort, IL to the late Carlis and Edith (Williams) Summerville. Jerry was a 1963 graduate of Murray State University. He joined the US Army and served his country from 1963 to 1965, then spent 6 years in the Army Reserves before being Honorably Discharged in 1971. He was a football coach at Florida State University where he met his wife Linda Oates. They were married on July 11, 1970 and this year would have marked their 50th wedding anniversary. Jerry and Linda were blessed with three wonderful children, DJ, Tiffany and Josh whom he was so proud of. Aside from Florida State University, he also coached football at The University of New Mexico and was the Assistant Athletic Director for The University of Cincinnati. He retired as a football / baseball coach and teacher from Mariemont High School. There, he received awards as the League Coach of the Year, City Coach of the Year, Regional Coach of the Year and State Coach of the year. He was also inducted into the Mariemont Athletic Hall of Fame.
Jerry enjoyed coaching, he had a strong faith in God and studied the bible. Jerry loved his family, his extended family, and all of the students he coached and taught.
Those that will carry on his legacy are his loving wife: Linda Summerville; beloved children: DJ (Diane) Summerville, Tiffany (Evan) Doyle, and Josh Summerville; cherished grandchildren: Kayla & Camden Summerville, Elijah, Noah & Israel Doyle; and dear brother: Joe (Sue) Summerville.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Carlis and Edith Summerville.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday June 10, 2020 from 3 pm until the time of the funeral service at 5 pm at Church on Fire, Harrison, OH. A private family burial will take place Thursday morning.
