Janice Munyon Obituary

Janice L. Munyon, of Harrison, passed away on January 10, 2024, at the age of 85. She was born on December 5, 1938 in Portsmouth, Ohio to Ralph and Helen Clausing then adopted by her grandparents George and Jessie Marie (Weimer) Born. Janice graduated high school in Portsmouth and met her future husband Richard Munyon on a double date.  Janice went on a double date and at the end of the night she hit it off with her friend's date, Richard Munyon Sr., and they later married on January 19, 1962. They were blessed with 5 children: Therese, Richard Jr., Sean, Erin and Brian. Janice was a wonderful mom and taught her children how to cook, have faith in God and how to be a hard worker.  While Richard was in college Janice helped support the family and one of her jobs was working on the Bob Evans farm.  She was always so proud to tell people that she worked alongside Bob and even had lunches with him. After the family found their home in Cincinnati, Richard took a job with P&G. Janice worked many different part-time jobs but always yearned to be a nurse. After all the kids were teenagers, she went to Miami University to get her BA of Nursing degree. She graduated in 1982 and went on to work in nursing for about 20 years. Even in her last 11 months in the nursing home, while dealing with dementia she was back to being a nurse.

Janice always worked and she loved music.  She worked at the hospital as a candy striper at the age of 14.  With her work ethic she always brought kindness, honesty, and integrity with her on the job and taught these qualities to her children as well.

It was also a well-known fact that Janice had a green thumb and had the ability to grow a beautiful plant from a cutting.  She also grew much of the vegetables and herbs that the family ate.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband Richard Munyon, Sr.; parents: George and Jessie Marie (Weimer) Born; Siblings: George Born, Georgetta Ellis, Katherine McCoy, Dorthy "Dottie" Buckle, Helen Pinkston;

The Munyon family was blessed to have Janice as their mom and she will be dearly missed by her children: Therese "Teri" (Jeff) Rolfes, Richard Jr. (Sandy) Munyon, Sean Sr. (Christy) Munyon, Erin (Mark) Orr, and Brian Munyon; beloved grandchildren: Eric & Chris Rolfes, Amanda, Jeremy, Gabriel, & Dominic Munyon, Sean Jr., Kevin (Josie Baine), Samantha, & Evalyn Munyon, Holley Adkins, and Jessica Orr; and a great grandson Oakley Bibb.  She is also survived by a sister-in-law: Patricia Lewis and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be held at Brater Winter Funeral Home on Monday, January 15, 2024, from 5 pm until 6:45pm when the Cincinnati Nurses Honor Guard will hold a Service. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 10020 Carolina Trace, Harrison, Ohio. 45030.
