James Lawrence “Jimmy” Moody, 66, got his angel wings on Tuesday, August 9, 2022, at Bridgetown Nursing and Rehab Center. Born to Larry and Jane (nee Blasdel) Moody on May 25, 1956, Jimmy was faced with a lifetime of challenges due to Down’s Syndrome. That never stopped him from always having a smile and a hug for everyone he met, even strangers and especially babies. Jimmy was a very social person and loved to dance and sing. He was a good athlete, winning many swimming medals in the Special Olympics, as well as enjoying bowling, fishing, and cheering on the Bengals and the Reds. Jimmy loved Skyline chili, Graeter’s ice cream, and Pepsi. No one loved opening Christmas gifts and Easter egg hunts more than Jimmy, especially if you took his picture. He was always ready to share his opinion on whatever topic was being discussed, even though his vocabulary was very limited. Jimmy believed in God and liked going to church. In his younger days, he would even walk to St. Martin’s to attend Sunday services.
Jimmy was loved by many and will be especially missed by his brother: Ron (Clara) Moody; stepbrothers: Rob (Sharon) Harbin, Kevin (Karen) Harbin, Jerry Gibson, and Paul Gibson; and stepsisters: Jenny (Bob) Gibson and Joyce (Chuck) Shoemaker; Uncle: William “Bill” Blasdel; Aunt: Mary Ann Moody; nieces and nephews: Mandy (Bob) Thomas, Veronica (Robin) Mullins, Jonathan (Mandyrose) Moody, Steve (Heather) Harbin, Brittany (David) Kolb, Katie Harbin, Beth (John) Neeley, Joe (Liz) Harbin, Justin Spratt, and many great nieces and nephews. Jimmy will also be missed by his longtime caregivers: Bobbie Marquez and Myrtle Miller, and his friends at his group home on Carmel Terrace, where he lived for over 35 years.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents: Larry (Helen) Moody and Jane (Delmar) Gibson; infant sister: Susan; grandparents: Homer and Sarah Moody and Harry and Ella Blasdel; nephew: Jason Harbin, as well as many aunts and uncles.
Visitation will be held at Brater Winter Funeral Home, 201 S. Vine St., Harrison, Ohio on Friday, August 12, 2022, from 1:00 pm until the time of service at 2:00 pm. Burial to follow at Gibson Cemetery, Bright, Indiana.
