Guenter "Gus" A. Grote

Guenter A. “Gus” Grote, of West Harrison, passed away on December 6, 2021 at the age of 80.  Gus was bornon August 20, 1941 in Lohne, Germany to Teodor and Joahanna (nee Gerke) Grote and moved to the United States in 1960.  He married Ursula Funke on May 12, 1962, and they were blessed with 4 children: Edmund, Guenter Jr., Cornelia and Annette.  Many from the Bright community knew him as the Owner of G & G Truck and Trailer Repair, Grote’s Trading Post and Gus’s Sports Bar.  He was also a Butcher and made the best Sausage and Goetta. Gus was also a member of the Kolping Society in Cincinnati. 

Gus leaves a wonderful legacy with his wife of almost 60 years: Ursula Grote; beloved children: Edmund (Melissa) Grote, Guenter Jr. Grote, Cornelia (Timothy) Berkemeier and Annette (Thomas Hensler) Grote; cherished grandchildren: Joseph, Jonathan, Jessie, Gage, Katlyn, Morgan, Nathan, Curtis, Mariah, Timothy, Austin, Dylan, Kirstiauna, and Wyatt; Great grandchildren: Savanah, Serenity, Ryan, Addison, Beau, Juliauna, Colton & Aspyn.  He is also survived by his brother: Siegfried and many nieces and nephews. 

Visitation will be held at St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross on Friday, December 10, 2021 from 5 pm to 8 pm.  Mass of Christian burial will be held at church on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 10 am with Fr. Daniel Mahan presiding.  Burial will follow at Gibson Cemetery. 

Memorials may be made to  St. Theresa Benedicta of the Cross in his memory.  A funeral home representative will be present to accept memorials during the visitation and funeral service.
