Dorothy "Dot" (Greenham) Elrod

Dorothy Jean “Dot” (Greenham) Elrod, of Harrison, passed away on May 31, 2021 at the age of 95. She was born on Feb. 22, 1926 in Harrison, Ohio to William and Mary E. (Doneworth) Greenham, and was the first of four children—Betty, Jane and Bo. Dot graduated William Henry Harrison High school in 1944 and married her high school sweetheart, Ira (Bud) Elrod on April 27, 1946. Together they raised four children: Susan, Jeff, Marcia and Todd.

Dot (Ma) was a homemaker, a wonderful mother, and a truly kind person. Her life revolved around taking care of her family and friends. She was happiest when she could feed you, hem a pair of pants for you, or do something to help others. At Christmas, she made the best monkey bread, Jell-O salads and Christmas cookies. Even though the grandchildren have the monkey bread recipe, not one can make it like Ma did. She also enjoyed reading, attending Bible study group and playing cards (she always won). She took pride in caring for her garden, notably her beautiful irises, roses and dahlias.

She will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 75 years: Ira “Bud” Elrod; her children: Susan Barnard (Stephen Carrabino), Jeff (Michele) Elrod, and Todd Elrod (Chris Matlock); son-in-law Charles Agbor; grandchildren: Danyel Barnard (Stuart Ablon), Nathan (Sherry) Elrod, Nick (Tiffaney) Elrod, Chris (Sharina) Elrod, and Zack (Carrie) Elrod, Leah (Andy) Leyendecker, Grace (Matt) Schiffman, Tyler (Samantha) Elrod, and Brendon Elrod (Dalton Knisley); 10 great grandchildren (and two more on the way); Dot’s younger sister, Betty Benson, and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Friday, June 4, 2021 from 10 am to 12 noon at Brater Winter Funeral Home, 201 S. Vine Street, Harrison, Ohio 45030. Services will follow the visitation starting at 12 noon.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or Parkinson’s Foundation. Donations will be accepted at the funeral home. If you are unable to attend mail your donation to the funeral home and they will notify the family and mail to charity
