Donald William Becker, of Harrison, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 4, 2022, at the age of 76 surrounded by his loving family.
Don was born in Mariemont, Ohio on February 22, 1945, to Louis Aloysius and Emma Mary (nee Snider) Becker. Don grew up in Fayetteville, Ohio where he enjoyed an idyllic childhood with his older siblings, Margaret and Ken, and younger sister, Audrey. Don graduated from the University of Cincinnati College of Pharmacy in 1968. It was here that he met Teri, the love of his life, along with a group of dear friends that have remained close for over 50 years. Don and Teri were married on November 22, 1969, at St. John the Baptist Church in Harrison. Don served our country in the United States Navy from 1968-1972. Following the completion of his service, Don and Teri moved to Harrison where they raised their 5 children: Jennie, Christa, Matthew, Mary, and Susan. Don worked at McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital and went on to serve as Director of Pharmacy for 20 years until his retirement in 2010.
Don was a devoted husband, loving father, cherished brother, and doting grandfather. He was proud to be a third-generation pharmacist, following in his father and grandfather’s footsteps. Don enjoyed the simple things in life – being outdoors in nature, gardening, listening to music, reading, and spending time with his family and friends. He and Teri enjoyed traveling and exploring and were able to travel more during retirement. His children have countless memories of playing games and having fun with him as both children and adults. He was a fixer of anything and was more than willing to help all of his children around their homes. Don loved being a father-in-law to his children’s spouses. He relished being a grandfather and enjoyed watching the next generation grow up. He valued hard work, had an impeccable work ethic, and led by example. He had a quick, dry wit and a contagious smile.
Don genuinely loved life and made the most of each day. He was raised a devout Catholic and relied on his faith throughout his life. Don was a member of the Veteran Apothecary Association of Cincinnati.
Don will live on in the hearts of his family: his loving wife of 52 years, Teri Ann (nee Yeager); children Jennie (Said) Elhamri, Christa (Michael) Mattis, Matthew (Crystal) Becker, Mary Becker, and Susan (Bob) Thompson; grandchildren: Laila and Yasmina Elhamri, Cara, Jonathan, and Andrew Mattis, Charlotte and Mason Becker, and Aubree Thompson; Brother: Ken (Angela) Becker; sister: Audrey (Scott) Gregg, and brother-in-law: Jerry Kiser. Numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many cousins and friends. Don is preceded in death by his parents: Emma and Louis Becker; sister: Margaret Smith; parents-in-law: John and Helen Yeager; and sister-in-law: Mary Lee Kiser.
