Delbert R Hughes, Jr.

Delbert Russ Hughes, Jr., of Sayler Park, passed away on August 16, 2023, at the age of 79.  He was born in Yamacraw, KY on June 5, 1944 to Delbert Sr. and Zula (nee Foster) Hughes. He met his future wife and after graduation they started his long distance relationship while he served in the US Navy.  When he got back he married Carolyn Pierson on April 29, 1967.  Delbert and Carolyn were blessed with three children: Timothy, Amy, and Lisa. He went to work for Kroger right after getting out of the military and retired after 40 years of dedicated service. Delbert loved cheering on the Reds and Bengals. Camping was a great past time with his family and his most favorite holiday was Christmas. The memory of the famous scavenger hunt for his presents brings smiles to his family. He will be dearly missed by his family.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Carolyn Hughes; parents: Delbert R. Hughes Sr., and Zula Foster Hughes; brothers: John & Richard A. Hughes and sister: Sandy Lockwood; brother in law: Fred Mead.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving children: Timothy (Tammy) Hughes, Amy (Gene) Teegarden, and Lisa (Steve McQueen) Hughes; cherished grandchildren: Abby (Kasey) Gabbard, Taylor (Woody) Lincoln, Lauren Schafer, Megan Armstrong, Stephanie McQueen, Brittany Peeno and Brandon Walden; dear sisters: Lucy Mead and Kay Hughes; and  sister-in-law: Linda (Al) Lipps. Delbert was also a wonderful uncle to many nieces and nephews and we can't forget his most precious children.. his dogs: Bailey and Maggie.

Visitation will be held on Monday, August 21, 2023, from 5 pm to 7pm at Brater Winter Funeral Home, 138 Monitor Ave, Cincinnati, 45233.  There will be words of remembrance at 7 pm.  If you have any funny stories, please bring them to share. Graveside service will be at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery, 4500 Foley Road, Cincinnati, on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at 11 AM we will meet at the gate at 10:45 and process to the grave at 11 am.

Memorials are requested to American Heart Association or Kidney Foundation. This can be done through the funeral home at the visitation, or you may mail your donation made payable to the charity to Brater Winter Funeral Home, 138 Monitor Ave., Cincinnati, Ohio 45233.  They will notify the family of your donation and mail into charity.
