Cheryl McKay Obituary

Cheryl (Cherie) Mae (Cole) McKay, 76, of Harrison, OH passed away on the evening of December 27, 2023. She took her last breath, surrounded by her nieces, at Hospice of Cincinnati after a hard-fought battle with cancer.

Cherie entered the world on June 14, 1947, in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan as the second-born child of the late Ralph A. and Erma E. (Maybe) Cole. She married William R. McKay, Jr. (deceased) on September 25, 1979.  Cherie had one son, Jason Michael Sweebe McKay who she dearly loved and treasured, who left this earth too soon at the young age of 21. We know that he will be having a huge party welcoming her into heaven as he loved the Lord just as much as Cherie did.  Other family members welcoming her into heaven besides her parents, husband, and son are her sister, Carolyn K. (Robert – deceased) Freeman, and brother, Blair D. (Mary) Cole.

She leaves behind her brother, Bruce A. (Carole – deceased) Cole, nephews, Michael (Angela) Freeman, Brendan (Hannah) Cole, Wyatt Cole, nieces, Bethany (Ed) Hampton, Robyn Stuhan, Emily Cole, and many well-loved great nieces, nephews, and friends.

She graduated from Midland High School and worked for the Dow Chemical Company for over 25 years.  She had friends all over the world as she lived in many places (Claire, MI, Midland, MI, Brownsburg, IN, St. Louis, MI, North Port, FL and Harrison, OH).  She was a lifetime member of the United Methodist Church, choir member, youth leader, prayer and worship team member, women’s retreat team leader, and youth mentor.  She enjoyed crafts of all kinds including stained glass, dot painting, quilting, and scrapbooking.  Her greatest love, however, was Jesus and people.  Her faith was deep and wide for Jesus, and she showered people with her love.  She made you feel important and special.

Cherie’s family would be honored if you joined them to share stories, memories, and celebrate her life on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at the Broadway Commons at 803 E. Broadway St, Harrison, Ohio. Visitation will begin at 10:30 am, with services at 11 am, and a meal and fellowship to follow. At a later date, there will be a small remembrance service by Jason’s graveside in Brownsburg, IN, where we will spread her ashes.  Donations in Cherie’s memory can be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association.
