Betty Mallett Obituary

Betty J. (nee Laake) Mallett, of Bright, IN, passed away on December 4, 2021, at the age of 93.  She was bornin Charleston, WV, on September 2, 1928, where she grew up in a close family of seven.  She was united in marriage to Charles E. Mallett on March 29, 1946, and soon thereafter moved to Indiana to raise their 3 children. Betty was a strong independent soul who led an active life.  There was no job too large or too small that she would not tackle and she was active with no intention of slowing down well into her 90's.  She loved gardening, good conversations, senior center activities and easily made friends wherever she would go.  She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband Chalres Mallett; parents: Joseph and Oma (nee Withrow) Laake; son: James Mallett and daughter: Shirley Mallett; Siblings: Juanita "Wanda" Cobb, Ruth Queen, Faye Potter, Beulah Schafer, Maxine Laake and Frank (Loretta) Laake.

She is survived by her son Chuck (Terri) Mallett; grandchildren: Adam Mallett, Susan Bowling, and Shirley Fichtl; and 5 great grandchildren.

Even though Betty lived in Indiana her love for family reached all the way across the miles to West Virginia which to her was truly almost heaven.  And as the song says... I hear her voice in the morning hours she calls me reminding me of my home far away... Country Roads have taken her home, to the place she belongs West Virginia, Country Roads, Country roads have taken her home.

Private graveside services will be held at Gibson Cemetery.

As a memorial plant a spring flower garden and celebrate all your loved ones who have passed on to heaven's greenest pastures where all the brightest blossoms grow.
