Alan R. Kinnett, of Harrison, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at the age of 81. He was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on May 12, 1940, to Ray and Hazel (nee Hahn) Kinnett. Alan married Jean Adams on April 29, 1961, and together they were blessed with three children: Diana, Jeff, and Mike. He was a 1958 graduate of William Henry Harrison High School. Alan got a job at Cincinnati Inc. and worked as a machinist and worked his way up to quality control.
While working full time at Cincinnati Inc. he started volunteering for the Harrison Fire Department in 1971. Alan served as Harrison Fire Chief from 1979, becoming the first full time Fire Chief in 1997, until his retirement in 2006. He was instrumental in the transition of the Harrison Fire Department from a Volunteer department to full time department. Alan graduated from the very first class of the Ohio Fire Executive program. In 1982, he was behind getting a second fire house, Station 57, built on West Road. He made great improvements in the safety for the Harrison and surrounding Communities, and we will forever be grateful for his service. While not working or volunteering Alan enjoyed bowling and helped manage many of the Harrison Bowl Tournaments. He was also a great softball player and played in many softball tournaments. Later in life his volunteer efforts went into his church: Miami Whitewater United Methodist Church, where he was a lay leader and taught Adult Sunday School. Alan and his wife Jean were also very active in Southeast Indiana Emmaus Community. This is a program that helps strengthen spiritual lives and build stronger communities.
Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Diana Kinnett, Jeff (Debbie) Kinnett, and Mike (Donna) Kinnett; grandchildren: Joshua (Ashley) Kinnett, Teara (Ryan) Kist, Kelly (Archie) Abner, Ashley (Cory) Hunt, Katelyn Kinnett, and Rachel (Mike) Swaggerty; great grandchildren: Lilian Kinnett, Hunter, Emilee, Lucy, and Finley Kist, Carson Kinnett, Audrina, Caden, and Stella Swaggerty; siblings: Larry (Sue) Kinnett and Linda Wolf.
Alan is preceded in death by his loving wife: Jean Kinnett; parents: Ray and Hazel Kinnett; brother-in-law: Dick Wolf.
Visitation will be held at Miami Whitewater United Methodist Church, 9700 Dry Fork Road, Harrison on Thursday, November 11, 2021, from 5 pm to 8 pm. Funeral Service will be on Friday, November 12, 2021, at 11 AM at the church. On his last day as Harrison's Fire chief in 2006, he was brought home by Former Mayor Dan Gieringer on the 1924 Ahrens Fox pumper it seems only fitting that he will be taking his last ride to Glen Haven Cemetery on that same 1924 Ahrens Fox Pumper. The route will be going past both fire houses. Fire Chaplain Mark Garrett will be officiating.
Memorials may be made to Harrison Fire Department or Queen City Hospice and mailed to Brater Winter Funeral Home, 201 S. Vine St., Harrison, Ohio 45030 or brought to the service where a funeral home representative will be happy to assist with your donation.
