Mary E. Washmuth, age 92 of New Haven, passed away on October 22, 2018. Mary was born to Clifford and Louise (nee Lyttle) Downard on January 26, 1926 in Harrison, Ohio. Mary was one of seven children. She married her childhood sweetheart, David P. Knose; and together they were blessed with a son: David L.. Mary enjoyed traveling to all of her husband's baseball games to cheer him on. Her husband David P. passed in 1965 and she met her second husband, Ernst L. Washmuth, while working at Fernald. Mary enjoyed cooking, traveling, country music & dancing. Other things that filled her with happiness was crossword puzzles, bowling, crocheting and going to church. Mary worked for many years until her retirement at Fernald or as she referred to it "The Atomic Plant." Everyone loved her at Fernald since she was in charge of the payroll.
Mary was preceded in death by her first husband: David P. Knose; her second husband: Ernst L. Washmuth; son: David L. Knose; parents: Clifford and Louise Downard; and siblings: Denver Alford, Jimmy Dale, and Allen Wayne Downard.
Those left to carry on Mary's legacy is her loving daughter-in-law: Mary Ann Knose; beloved grandchildren: Julie Knose and David M. (Kristine) Knose; cherished great grandchildren: Emma and Mary Knose; siblings: Margie Parker, Clifford (Barbara) Downard, and Rhonda (James) Huff. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Saturday, October 27, 2018 from 11 am until the time of the funeral at 1 PM at Brater Winter Funeral Home, 201 S. Vine St., Harrison, OH 45030. Burial to follow at New Haven Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzhiemer's Association or to The American Cancer Society.
