Elvin Johnson, of Okeana, OH, passed away on October 6, 2018 at the age of 94. He was born on November 24, 1923 in London, Kentucky to Sim and Barbara (nee Bowling) Johnson. He was one of 7 children of Sim and Barbara. Elvin graduated Hamilton High School and joined the US Marine Corps from November 25, 1942 until his honorable discharge on Nov. 15, 1945. He was a purple Heart Recipient after being wounded in action on Feb. 19, 1945 at Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands. Elvin married Wilma Brown on June 12, 1948 and were blessed with three children: David, Pam and Monica. He worked as an electrician for Cincinnati Inc. and Kroeger. Elvin enjoyed fishing in Alaska, attending Smyrna Baptist Church and eating.
Preceded in death by his parents: Sim and Barbara Johnson; son: David Johnson; siblings: Les Johnson, Melvin Johnson, Elsie Flachman & Rebecca Spencer.
Survivors include his loving wife of 70 years Wilma Johnson; beloved children: Pam (Wayne) Hensley & Monica Schamer; Daughter in law: Pauline Johnson; Devoted brothers: Woodrow & Burt Johnson; Loving grandchildren: Chris (Jenny) Johnson, Jered (Erin) Johnson, & Jeromy (Nicole) Hensley; and great grandchildren: Tyler, Zachery, & Cody Johnson, Josiah & Kaleigh Hensley, Simon Henry & Jude Johnson.
Visitation will be held on Tue., Oct. 9, 2018 from 6 PM to 8 PM at Brater Winter Funeral Home Harrison, OH & Wed., Oct 10th from 10 am until the time of the funeral service at 11 AM in Smyrna Baptist, 4047 US 52, New Trenton, IN with Rev. Chuck McMahan officiating. Burial to follow with Military Honors at Drewersburg Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials to Smyrna Baptist Church or Hospice of Hamilton through the funeral home
