Elmira Mertes Obituary

Elmira Hope Mertes (nee Wyatt) passed away on September 4, 2017 in Cincinnati, OH at the age of 93. She was born on March 15, 1924 in Poplar Plains, KY to Caleb & Jessie Wyatt. She married William V. Mertes and they were blessed with two children William and Joan. Elmira was an avid reader and enjoyed being an active member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. She was a teacher at Church and also enjoyed her bible study group.

Elmira is survived by daughter Joan Mertes Gay; grandsons: Matthew (Natalie) Gay, Robby (Laura) Gay, great-grandchildren Matthew and MacKenzie, sisters: Earline Spencer, Lois Hinton and Paige Fawns, many cherished nieces, nephews and friends.

Preceded in death by parents: Caleb and Jessie Wyatt; husband: William V. Mertes; son: William W Mertes; sister: Joann Applegate and grandson: Timothy Gay.

Memorial service will be 11 AM on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Shiloh United Methodist Church, 5261 Foley Rd, Cincinnati.

Memorials may be made to the Free Store Food Bank in Elmira's memory.
