John Brater Obituary
John Clyde Brater was born on July 29, 1945 to Howard and Essie (nee Wamsley) Brater in Cincinnati, Ohio. He grew up in Sayler Park. As a young boy he wanted to be a funeral director and befriended the local undertakers Mr. Seifert and Mr. Hardig. He graduated High School from Millersburg Military Institute and then graduated from Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. John purchased Lutz Funeral Home in Harrison, Ohio in 1968 and a few years later changed the name to John C. Brater Funeral Home. He married Kathie Rolfes, a Harrison native, in 1978. John was a good friend to Mr. Hardig and in 1998 purchased Seifert - Hardig Funeral Home in Sayler Park. As a funeral director he comforted many during his 43 years of service to many communities. John also never missed a good funeral meal. He was a fair and honest man that was well respected in the communities he served. John & Kathie operated the funeral homes until 2011.
John & Kathie were the proud recipients of the Greater Cincinnati YMCA Award of Excellence in 2004. John loved playing Bridge with many of his friends. He enjoyed traveling with Kathie and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He had a wonderful sense of humor and could tell some great stories.
Survivors include his beloved wife: Kathie A. Brater; sons: Jeff (Julie), Scot (Sarah); cherished grandchildren: Rachael (Isaiah) Strong, Miranda (fiance' Daniel Cone,) Katie, Evan, Emma and Ava.
John was preceded in death by his parents: Howard and Essie Brater.
Passed away Monday, March 21, 2016. AGE 70. Resident of Harrison.
Visitation Friday, March 25, 2016 at Brater-Winter Funeral Home, 201 S. Vine Street, Harrison from 2 PM until the Odd Fellows Lodge service followed by the funeral service at 8 PM. Private family burial will be held on Saturday.
It was John's wish that in lieu of flowers memorials be made to Harrison Sr. Center Activity Fund, North Dearborn Food Pantry or Ed Eiding Food Pantry (Sayler Park) through the funeral home.
