Jane Wilson (nee Cockerill) Sweeder, age 99, passed away on April 12, 2016 at Twin Towers Retirement Community where she had been a resident for the past 9 years.
Jane was born in Greenfield, Ohio on March 1, 1917 and graduated from McClain High School in 1935 and Denison University in 1940. Throughout Jane's life she was involved in many organizations. She was a member of the Ft. Nightly Reading group from 1947, holding many different offices over her active membership. She was active AOTT Alumni in the Cincinnati Chapter, Cincinnati Women's Club, Westwood Women's Club and Historical Society Member. She worked hard to preserve her home of 57 years in Sayler Park. Jane was also honored in 1988 as one of the 200 people for the Bi-Centennial of Cincinnati. Following their travels, Jane put together a presentation on "Stained Glass Windows of Europe". She enjoyed visiting many churches and the history they represented. She was an active member of the Eden Chapel United Methodist Church since 1946 participating in many church activities over the years.
Those surviving who will honor her memory include loving daughter: Christie Jane (James) Hanchett of Orlando, Florida; dear step-grandchildren: Caroline (Jon) Gadbois, Sommer Bevill & Julie (Abe) Alvarez; great grandmother of Devin, Nicholas & Caden Gadbois, Bodie Bevill, Elijah & Zek Alvarez; dear sister: Caroline Riethmiller; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; devoted husband: Willard Sweeder; loving son: Mark James Sweeder; and siblings: Martha Applegate, Molly Ann Hays & Martin Cockerill.
Friends and Family are invited to Twin Towers Wilson Chapel, 5343 Hamilton Avenue, Cincinnati Ohio, 45233 on Friday, April 22, 2016 from 9:30AM until the time of the funeral service at 10:30AM. Reception to follow after service at Twin Towers. Burial will be on Friday, April 22, 2016 at 1:00PM at Maple Grove Cemetery, Cleves, Ohio. We welcome friends and family to join in celebrating Jane's life at Nick's Cafe in Cleves, Ohio following the burial.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made "In memory of Jane C. Sweeder: McClain High School Scholarship Fund; Twin Towers Benevolent Fund; or Eden Chapel United Methodist Church through the funeral home.
